As resolution of machine vision cameras is steadily increasing, there´s also a growing need for high resolution lenses to be able to take full advantage of these developments. STEMMER IMAGING´s lens partners Ricoh, Tamron and Kowa have introduced new products that have been developed especially for high resolution machine vision solutions.
Ricoh’s FL-BC series is a family of compact lenses for 9 megapixel cameras with a sensor size up to 1"-CCD and focal lengths from 25 up to 75 mm. In addition to their extremely high resolution, the lenses provide very uniform illumination, low distortion and a robust industrial design. The apertures of the four models cover F1.8, F2.4 and F 2.8 and allow for minimum object distances between 100 and 250 mm. With filter threads of M40.5 x 0.5, C-mount camera mounts and locking screws for aperture and focus, Ricoh´s FL-BC family is a compact and reliable solution for applications using 9 megapixel cameras.
Tamron’s first 12 Megapixel lens series M111FM50 (f = 50 mm) is already available. In July 2015, three new focal lengths of this highly appreciated 1.1” series will be released. Models with 25 mm and 16 mm and a wide-angle 8 mm solution will complete this low distortion lens series. The large image circle of 17.6 mm and a pixel pitch of 3.1 µm guarantee excellent picture quality, especially when combined with the latest sensor generations. The wide temperature range from -20 to +60° Celsius and the high mechanical stability are further highlights of these lenses. These attributes make the M111FM-series a perfect fit not only for rough industrial areas but also for precise measurement applications. All four lenses feature an F-Stop of F/1.8 and short MODs of 0,3m and 0,4m (50 mm).
Japanese lens manufacturer Kowa now offers the JC10M series, a new 10 megapixel high resolution lenses for machine vision that provide up to 200 lp/mm centre resolution and a low distortion to maximise the performance in high-end inspection systems. Incorporating Kowa´s wide-band coating and floating mechanism system, the JC10M lens series greatly reduces chromatic aberration from close distance to infinity and maintains a high transmission from visible to NIR. The series’ short minimum object distance and the compact design with aspherical lenses allow for easy installation in compact machine vision systems. JC10M covers five models with focal lengths from 5 to 25 mm.

Over the past years, Kowa is gradually expanding its portfolio of Megapixel C-mount lenses, 3CCD lenses, telecentric lenses, and large format lenses. All machine vision lenses are designed and manufactured in Japan.
Since 1919 the Asahi Optical Co. has been producing optical components. In 1951 production of CCTV lenses was started, firstly under the brand name Cosmicar and later as Pentax.
Founded in 1950, Tamron started with developing interchangeable lenses for reflex cameras.
